5 Common Excuses That Hold Entrepreneurs Back and How to Move Past Them
If you are reading this, chances are you have dreams of starting a business. An entrepreneurial itch, if you will. And perhaps you have some reasons - some excuses - as to why you won’t be successful or why now is not the right time. Well, guess what? The only thing an excuse does is make sure your life is the exact same as it was yesterday.
Here are some common excuses people use not to start a business...and reasons those excuses simply do...not...work!
This Has Already Been Done Before
Maybe your business idea isn’t brand spanking new. Maybe there are a couple other businesses that you know of with a similar idea, or perhaps there are hundreds. It doesn’t matter. Think about your favorite genre of music and all of the singers that are out there. They are all doing the same thing. Christina Aguilera didn’t stop singing just because Britney Spears already was. Or think about the grocery store...have you seen how many choices of bread there are?! It is okay if it has been done before. It doesn’t make your chances of success any less.
I Don’t Have the Time
Look, you make time for what you want. If starting a business is truly something you aspire to do, evaluate what your current day-to-day activities look like and eliminate time-draining tasks like spending hours on social media or watching TV. Utilize that time to work toward your goals instead! And use resources that will help get your business up and running in less time.
I Don’t Have Enough Money
This may very well be the top excuse people use to not start a business, but the fact is - no business has “enough money”. There is no such thing. The art of being an entrepreneur is not that you start a business and it becomes an immediate success. Rather, the art of being an entrepreneur is the ability to do more with less. If you are on a budget, there are still ways to get your business up off the ground!
I Feel Silly for Wanting to Start My Own Business
Fear can be paralyzing, for sure. Perhaps you feel like others will think your ideas are silly, or you are just afraid that you won’t succeed. Newsflash: There is absolutely nothing silly about wanting to do something you love, earn a living from it, and gain financial freedom for yourself! One of the most difficult hurdles when starting a business can be overcoming that fear. However, there are ways to do it and the only way to truly fail is if you never try at all!
I Don’t Have All the Skills I Need
Let’s say that you are an absolute professional at HTML coding. You can build websites to perfection all day. But maybe you aren’t a good writer, aren’t the best with graphics, or simply don’t know how to market your services out in the world. You’d be surprised at how many free or affordable resources are out there to either teach you or help you accomplish the tasks you feel less than confident about.
